A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that stores data in a matrix of black and white squares. Unlike traditional barcodes that hold ~20 characters, QR codes can encode up to 4,296 alphanumeric characters enough for URLs, Wi-Fi credentials, contact cards, or entire paragraphs of text.
QR codes use Reed-Solomon error correction, meaning they can still be scanned even if up to 30% of the code is damaged or obscured. This is why you can put logos in the center of QR codes the error correction compensates for the missing data. There are four levels: L (7%), M (15%), Q (25%), and H (30%).
